About

I’m an assistant teacher at the History Department (Institute of Economical and Social History) of the Faculty of Letters of the Coimbra University and researching towards my doctoral dissertation whose foreseen title is “A social study of the local administration elites of Coimbra (1777-1820)” .

My main research subject has been centered in studying local communities, its social organization and the way they develop in time. Special attention has been given to the individuals and families that dominate local power and resources and  their personal and generational strategies of social affirmation.

I'm interested in Social History (18th-19th), specially the analysis of social networks as a tool to reconstruct historical communities and its social structures.

Lately I've been working with a research team that has been developing a prosopographical and genealogical database system called Time Link. You can read more about the project and explore our parish records databases on line in  http://timelink.fl.uc.pt/

I´m a member of a thematic work group  (TWG3 - Religious and philosophical concepts) inside CLIOHRES.net. CLIOHRES.net (“Creating Links and Innovative Overviews for a New History Research Agenda for the Citizens of a Growing Europe”) is a Sixth Framework Programme Network of Excellence organized by a group of 45 universities. See http://www.cliohres.net

Also, I am a member of the CISUC Research Centre of the University of Coimbra - ECOS group that focuses on Evolution and Complex Systems (http://cisuc.dei.uc.pt/ecos/).
